Our Journey in Kosovo
For seven years, the Silva family served as missionaries in Kosovo, where we founded Newborn Brew, a coffee shop and community center, and helped co-lead the church plant that grew alongside it.
Over the past few years, we sensed God leading us to release our leadership of Newborn Brew and the church, making room for the next chapter of His work. Our ministry partners, Doni and Albina, stepped into leadership and are now guiding both Newborn Brew and the church into this new season. We are grateful for what God has done and expectant to see how He continues to establish, strengthen, and grow this work through their leadership.
Our Heart for Portugal
Our love for God’s heart for the nations remains strong, and we believe He is leading our family into a new season of ministry in Portugal. As we consider this next chapter, our desire is to see disciples made and the gospel take root in local communities.
Portugal presents a unique mission field. As a predominantly Catholic nation with deeply rooted traditions, many people have limited familiarity with the gospel. We hope to approach ministry in a way that reflects how God has equipped our family: building relationships, practicing hospitality, and sharing the gospel through everyday life. We envision opening our home to others, welcoming neighbors into our community, and regularly studying the Bible with individuals and small groups in our home and local coffee shops.
Just as importantly, we want to connect with a local, gospel-centered church, serve under its leadership, and support the work God is already doing in the community.
There are still many details we are trusting God to reveal in His timing. However, we can share the following goals and priorities that are guiding our discernment.
Our Mission Goals in Portugal
Our primary goal is to identify and support a local, gospel-centered church in Portugal, come under its leadership, and serve its congregation and surrounding community.
Our ministry priorities:
– Intentionality in family: Faithfully disciple our three boys while being intentional about their education, spiritual formation, and growth as followers of Jesus.
– Hospitality and community building: Use the gifts God has given our family to welcome others into our home and daily lives, building genuine relationships that create opportunities to share the gospel.
– Evangelism and disciple-making: Share Christ with our neighbors and the wider community, seeking to make disciples among the people God brings into our lives.
– Biblical teaching: Teach Scripture through one-on-one discipleship, small groups, and informal gatherings in our home and local coffee shops.
– Language and cultural immersion: Prioritize learning Portuguese, understanding the local culture, and establishing deep roots in the community to support the long-term sustainability of our family’s ministry.
Above all, we want to remain faithful to what God places before us, serving the local church, loving our neighbors, and trusting Him to build His kingdom in Portugal in His own way and timing.
