Debra embarked on her first mission trip to Zambia in Feb. 2004. This God-call would be life changing. By August of the same year, she had sold her business, home, and all her worldly possessions to move to Zambia where she built and ran an orphanage and community school in the rural bush. Serious illness sent her back home to the US in 2009 and left her unable to return.
Ten years later and fully recovered, God nudged her heart again for missions and after two trips to Belize He confirmed that this is where He wanted her to go. Belize is a small Central American country just below Mexico on the Caribbean side with a population of approximately 400,000. Debra found herself in the western district of Cayo in the small village of Santa Familia. Here she built an off-grid home where she and her 90-year-old mother live full-time and where Blessing Belize is changing lives.
MISSION & VISION
The mission of Blessing Belize is to show and share God’s love with the people of Belize.
It is the vision of Blessing Belize to touch lives in a positive way while sharing the good news of God’s love for the people of Belize. With God’s direction as our guiding force, we want to enrich lives by providing physical, emotional, and spiritual support through direction, mentorship, and lending a helping hand.
It is the intention of Blessing Belize to offer assistance—a hand up, not a handout. We believe requiring participation and effort creates ownership. This generates positive outcomes, such as:
- pride in reaching a goal
- a sense of community
- better self-image
- awareness of others
- recognizing strengths
- acknowledging weaknesses
- learning compassion
- appreciating God sovereignty
To this end, we intend to work with local communities, schools, churches, and families to develop programs, events, and activities that enrich, educate, and enable. With God at the center and the message of salvation as our goal, our desire is to bring the lives we touch into relationship with Him.
PROJECTS
Blessing Belize mentors children and adults through our Aim High Young at Art and Sewing Sisters programs. Teaching children Bible truths in a local Kids Church. Financially assisting in the building of local churches and providing transportation and funds for medical care.
On a potato field in Africa, exhausted and disheartened, God spoke to Debra about stealing the blessing from others by not giving them the opportunity to help. It was a lesson learned the hard way.
