Troyer, Rebekah – Open Door Foundation

Our Story

Rebekah has been dedicated to missions for the past seven years, participating in multiple short-term trips and internships with various mission organizations overseas. In 2021, she moved to the Netherlands to pursue a degree in intercultural missions training.

During her studies, Rebekah was introduced to the Open Door Foundation, an organization that supports survivors of sex trafficking. Through a holistic approach, the foundation focuses on the social and spiritual development of the women they help.

After completing her studies in 2023, Rebekah’s heart remained in Romania with the women at Open Door Foundation. After a year of prayer and seeking the Lord’s direction, Rebekah returned to Romania in March 2024 to discern if this was the place God was calling her. During that time, her calling became clear.

Why Romania?

Soon after Rebekah came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior, she felt the call to missions. At the time, she wasn’t sure which group or country she would serve, but during her time serving with the World Race, she felt a strong pull toward India.

After returning home, Rebekah began the process of applying for Bible college. After several closed doors, the Lord led her to apply to Cornerstone College for Intercultural Missions Training. She moved to The Netherlands with her heart still set on India as her end goal.

However, God had other plans. In her first year, Rebekah participated in a three-week trip to Romania, a country she had never considered. While working at a shelter for the Open Door Foundation, her heart grew for the women who had survived sex trafficking.

The following year, Rebekah wrote a research paper that explored the immense effects of sex trafficking on survivors and developed a comprehensive discipleship method that took a holistic approach to healing and restoration.

During this time, Rebekah also came to realize the immense need in Romania. It is estimated that 99% of sex trafficking victims are women and girls. Romania is one of the largest hotspots in Eastern Europe where women and girls are trafficked within the country and to other parts of Europe. The need to not only end trafficking but also to bring the freedom of Jesus to these survivors—freedom from the shame and pain they have experienced—is urgent.

Rebekah will return to Romania in late 2025 as a long-term, full-time missionary. Her vision is to walk alongside survivors in their healing journey, offering discipleship, and sharing the gospel—the hope and freedom that can only be found in Jesus Christ.
