Our Story

The African Teachers Training Ministry (ATTM) is a ministry in the Spirit of 2 Timothy 2:2 to prepare and provide well equipped Sunday School teachers in Africa with biblical knowledge.

Our Vision

To grow a God honoring, Christ exalting Sunday School teachers’ ministry for the Biblical Christian churches of Africa.  This will be to enhance the evangelization, spiritual growth and discipleship in Christ of these churches, their pastors, leaders, members and especially the children.

Our Story

The African Teachers Training Ministry (ATTM) began in 2023, an offshoot of Church Leaders in Training (CLT), a parachurch initiative that began in Kenya, East Africa in 2004.  CLT’s distinctive aim is to provide specialized training and practical skills to Sunday School teachers to enable them to teach biblically, effectively and efficiently in the Sunday School ministry in the local churches.

Based on his experiences as a teacher with CLT, our founder, the Reverend Edward Elly Lokang, saw a great need in the under resourced churches of his native land of the neighboring country of Uganda to provide the same ministry.  These churches serve a large refugee population from nearby South Sudan.  Rev. Edward was moved by the Holy Spirit to meet this need which CLT could not provide, so ATTM was conceived.  He enlisted the help of his colleague, Reverend John Onek of Uganda and ministry partner Dave Mozdin, an American whom he met while on a teaching mission in Kenya in 2015.

After much prayer and discussion between the three a meeting was held in September 2023, and by the leading of the Holy Spirit, ATTM was formed.  Dave was able to secure financial and prayer support for the first year, and the first of four training sessions was held in Uganda in January 2024 and concluded in December with 43 graduates.  For many, while they were already teaching Sunday School, this was the first time they had received any formal training.  The training consisted of practical teaching methods for the children aged 2 through 14, and theological biblical training to ensure a sound doctrinal foundation for a solid personal daily walk with Christ and to enhance the practical teaching.

More classes are in the planning stages for 2025 and beyond, as we trust the Lord to provide answers to our prayers and the necessary financial resources. In the future we plan to hold sessions specifically for pastors so they may have a good basic understanding of how an effective biblical Sunday School ministry functions within their own churches.

God willing, going forward, we also look to expand into other geographical areas in need, such as South Sudan, where the churches face challenges from the extremism of false religions.
